Marcia A. Lowe, PhD, MSN, BSN, RN, GERO-BC

Marcia A. Lowe earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Tuskegee Institute in

1983, a Master of Science in Nursing Education with honors from Samford University in 2002,

and a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD) in 2019 from the University of Alabama at

Birmingham (UAB) School of nursing in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. Lowe has over 40 years of

professional nursing experience which includes Post-Anesthesia Care, Medical Surgical,

Research, Management, Endoscopy/ GI Medicine, Performance Improvement, Palliative Care and Nursing Education. She is actively involved in many community health initiatives and is an advocate of health promotion, disease prevention, and health equity. She is a certified gerontological nurse.

Dr. Lowe is the First Vice-President of the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), a

lifetime member who chairs the End of Life and Brain Health Committees and is a member of the Membership Committee. She is a past president of the Birmingham Black Nurses

Association (BBNA) and currently chairs the Brain Health and Wellness Committee. She is a

member of the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA), the Alabama State Nurses

Association (ASNA), and the DEI Advisory Council of the Alzheimer's Association's Alabama

chapter. Dr. Lowe is a Nurse Educator in Staff Development at the Birmingham VA Health Care System in Birmingham, Alabama. As an educator, she is constantly looking for new and innovative ways to create vibrant learning environments. Many nursing students and new nurses have benefited from her guidance. To Dr. Lowe, nursing is both a passion and a profession.
